Tips for Common Problems Faced Underwater

Underwater photography comprises of fishes, marine mammals, shipwrecks, underwater landscapes and submerged caves. There can be few hurdles for the learner of underwater photography. This photography is the most challenging one as it requires many techniques and specialized equipments. There are many common problems faced again and again by underwater photographer.

These are the common problems faced by underwater photographer along with solutions-

  • Very often photos appear in red or orange color and this is because of the wrong white balance setting. In the underwater mode flash and strobe should be inactive.
  • When images are moderately black in color on the top or bottom this is because of the shutter speed. The shutter speed should match the sync speed.
  • If the strobe battery power gets low, than this can be prevented by switching on the ISO and capturing the images at a superior aperture.
  • The images are not satisfactory even after using a strobe or an internal flash; this is due to too much of exposure in ambient light.
  • The images often appear blurry when trying a crack shot. Small aperture is to be used and if necessary the ISO can be bumped up.
  • When the strobe is firing randomly there may be some moisture somewhere in the system. This problem can be solved by cleaning the strobe.
  • Very often wide angle visibility is not as good as expected, so try to capture some silhouettes.
  • Very often camera is affected by fog, which can be avoided by reading the manual of the camera.
  • Sometime reflections occur in sunny shots it is because of the metal inside the wide angle lenses. This problem occurs only while shooting at particular angles and it can be avoided by slightly changing the angle.
