Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean is the largest Oceanic division on the earth. It covers Earth’s one third surface with a huge area of 179.7 million square kilometers. This should give an idea as to how rich marine life exists under this gigantic water body. There are many notable Islands in the Pacific Ocean which have extensive and exclusive marine life. The two most famous and attractive of them are Fiji and Solomon Islands.

  • Fiji – Fiji is renowned worldwide for its varied and exciting reefs. When you will dive in the waters of Fiji you will experience that this place is nicknamed as the world’s soft coral capital for every right reason. Vanua Levu and Taveuni are the two main Islands in Fiji that are rich in marine life and hence provide great underwater photography shots. These Islands lie to the north of Viti Levu and are located to the either side of Somosomo Straights. As mentioned earlier these Islands are famous for soft corals, reef sharks, Anemones, clownfishes and corals which are in every color of the rainbow.
  • Solomon Islands – The Solomon Islands in Western Pacific have some of the greatest dive sites in the world. Due to the remote location of the Solomon Islands, the region has retained its charm and is therefore unspoilt. Most of the dive sites here provide great macro subjects like ghost pipefish, porcelain crabs, xeno crabs, ribbon eels, many nudibranchs, large seahorses and many others.
Some popular dive sites in Solomon Islands are –
    • Mary’s Island – One will find plentiful reef sharks, barracudas, occasional tuna’s, big bumphead parrotfish as well as napoleon wrasse.
    • Devil’s Highway – This is a place with strong currents, where the mantas hover.
    • Barracuda Point – This diving destination has multiple schools of fishes, Jacks, Barracudas and more.
